A controversy seems to be developing in Canada about the white poppy. The white poppy is new to Canada and the Canadian Legion seems to view it as competition. They also seem to be insulted by it. The red poppy honors those who served and died in the great wars and other conflicts. It seems to me that the white poppy is saying that we need to find a peaceful way to settle our differences. I am sure that many veterans would agree with this. After all, if war solved problems, would we still have wars?
The father of Capt. Nichola Goddard, the only female Canadian soldier to die on the battlefield, has no problem with the white poppy.
Veterans should remember that they served to defend our freedoms which include the freedom to think and to hold a different opinion.
